Charge of Ion given Ionic Potential Solution

STEP 0: Pre-Calculation Summary
Formula Used
Charge = Ionic Potential*Ionic Radius
q = φ*rionic
This formula uses 3 Variables
Variables Used
Charge - (Measured in Coulomb) - A Charge is the fundamental property of forms of matter that exhibit electrostatic attraction or repulsion in the presence of other matter.
Ionic Potential - (Measured in Volt) - The Ionic Potential is the ratio of the electrical charge (z) to the radius (r) of an ion.
Ionic Radius - (Measured in Meter) - The Ionic Radius is the radius of a monatomic ion in an ionic crystal structure.
STEP 1: Convert Input(s) to Base Unit
Ionic Potential: 300000 Volt --> 300000 Volt No Conversion Required
Ionic Radius: 10000 Angstrom --> 1E-06 Meter (Check conversion here)
STEP 2: Evaluate Formula
Substituting Input Values in Formula
q = φ*rionic --> 300000*1E-06
Evaluating ... ...
q = 0.3
STEP 3: Convert Result to Output's Unit
0.3 Coulomb --> No Conversion Required
FINAL ANSWER
0.3 Coulomb <-- Charge

How can the behavior of an element in it's environment be predicted from it's ionic potential?

Victor Moritz Goldschmidt, the father of modern geo-chemistry found that the behavior of an element in it's environment could be predicted from it's ionic potential and illustrated this with a diagram (plot of the bare ionic radius as a function of the ionic charge).
The ionic potential of the different cations (Na+, K+, Mg2+ and Ca2+) present in the interlayer of clay minerals also contribute to explain their swelling/shrinking properties. The more hydrated cations such as Na+ and Mg2+ are responsible for the swelling of smectite while the less hydrated K+ and Ca2+ cause the collapse of the interlayer. In illite, the interlayer is totally collapsed because of the presence of the poorly hydrated K+
. Ionic potential is also a measure of the polarising power of a cation. Ionic potential could be used as a general criterion for the selection of efficient adsorbents for toxic elements.

How to Calculate Charge of Ion given Ionic Potential?

Charge of Ion given Ionic Potential calculator uses Charge = Ionic Potential*Ionic Radius to calculate the Charge, The Charge of ion given Ionic Potential is the physical property of matter that causes it to experience a force when placed in an electromagnetic field. Charge is denoted by q symbol.
