Depth of Crater Solution

STEP 0: Pre-Calculation Summary
Formula Used
Depth of Machined Surface = Empirical Constant*Energy Delivered per Spark^0.33
dm = a*P^0.33
This formula uses 3 Variables
Variables Used
Depth of Machined Surface - (Measured in Meter) - Depth of machined surface is the how deep a surface is machined from the un-machined surface.
Empirical Constant - Empirical Constant influencing empirical relationships supported by confirmatory data irrespective of theoretical basis such as first principles.
Energy Delivered per Spark - (Measured in Watt) - Energy delivered per spark is the energy produced for EDM.
STEP 1: Convert Input(s) to Base Unit
Empirical Constant: 0.55 --> No Conversion Required
Energy Delivered per Spark: 12 Watt --> 12 Watt No Conversion Required
STEP 2: Evaluate Formula
Substituting Input Values in Formula
dm = a*P^0.33 --> 0.55*12^0.33
Evaluating ... ...
dm = 1.24879888039552
STEP 3: Convert Result to Output's Unit
1.24879888039552 Meter -->1248.79888039552 Millimeter (Check conversion here)
FINAL ANSWER
1248.79888039552 1248.799 Millimeter <-- Depth of Machined Surface

Depth of Crater Formula

Depth of Machined Surface = Empirical Constant*Energy Delivered per Spark^0.33
dm = a*P^0.33

What factors affects surface finish during EDM ?

The amount of material removed and the surface finish produced is dependent upon the current in the spark. The material removed by the spark can be assumed to be a crater. The amount removed therefore will depend upon the crater depth, which is directly proportional to the current. Thus as the material removed increases and at the same time the surface finish also decreases. However, decreasing the current in the spark, but increasing its frequency will improve the surface finish in view of the small crater size, but at the same time the material removal rate can be maintained by increasing the frequency.

How to Calculate Depth of Crater?

Depth of Crater calculator uses Depth of Machined Surface = Empirical Constant*Energy Delivered per Spark^0.33 to calculate the Depth of Machined Surface, The Depth of crater formula is defined as the perpendicular distance between the machined and un-machined surface during EDM. Depth of Machined Surface is denoted by dm symbol.
