Electrode Tip Diameter Solution

STEP 0: Pre-Calculation Summary
Formula Used
Electrode Diameter = 2.54+(Thickness of First Material+Thickness of Second Material)
d = 2.54+(t1+t2)
This formula uses 3 Variables
Variables Used
Electrode Diameter - (Measured in Millimeter) - Electrode Diameter is the diameter of the tip of the electrode.
Thickness of First Material - (Measured in Millimeter) - The Thickness of First Material is that dimension which is the smallest of all.
Thickness of Second Material - (Measured in Millimeter) - The Thickness of Second Material is the minimum dimension given.
STEP 1: Convert Input(s) to Base Unit
Thickness of First Material: 1.6 Millimeter --> 1.6 Millimeter No Conversion Required
Thickness of Second Material: 2.4 Millimeter --> 2.4 Millimeter No Conversion Required
STEP 2: Evaluate Formula
Substituting Input Values in Formula
d = 2.54+(t1+t2) --> 2.54+(1.6+2.4)
Evaluating ... ...
d = 6.54
STEP 3: Convert Result to Output's Unit
0.00654 Meter -->6.54 Millimeter (Check conversion here)
FINAL ANSWER
6.54 Millimeter <-- Electrode Diameter

Electrode Tip Diameter
Go Electrode Diameter = 2.54+(Thickness of First Material+Thickness of Second Material)
Current required to sustain welding
Go Electric Current = 3937*(Thickness of First Material+Thickness of Second Material)
Weld time in cycles
Go Weld Time = 2.36*(Thickness of First Material+Thickness of Second Material)

Go Force = 876*(Thickness of First Material+Thickness of Second Material)

Electrode Tip Diameter Formula

Electrode Diameter = 2.54+(Thickness of First Material+Thickness of Second Material)
d = 2.54+(t1+t2)

Why do we need to maintain Tip diameter constant?

In spot welding, a satisfactory weld is obtained when a proper current density is maintained. The current density depends on the contact area between the electrode and the work piece. With continuous use, if the tip becomes upset and the contact area increases, the current density will be lowered and consequently the weld is obtained over a large area.
This would not be able to melt the metal and hence there would be no proper fusion.

How to Calculate Electrode Tip Diameter?

Electrode Tip Diameter calculator uses Electrode Diameter = 2.54+(Thickness of First Material+Thickness of Second Material) to calculate the Electrode Diameter, The Electrode Tip Diameter is the tip of the electrode in contact with the work piece during spot welding operation. Electrode Diameter is denoted by d symbol.

How to calculate Electrode Tip Diameter using this online calculator? To use this online calculator for Electrode Tip Diameter, enter Thickness of First Material (t1) & Thickness of Second Material (t2) and hit the calculate button. Here is how the Electrode Tip Diameter calculation can be explained with given input values -> 6540 = 2.54+(0.0016+0.0024).
