Sparking Time from Frequency of Discharge Solution

STEP 0: Pre-Calculation Summary
Formula Used
Sparking Time = 0.5/Frequency of Spark Time
ts = 0.5/ft
This formula uses 2 Variables
Variables Used
Sparking Time - (Measured in Second) - Sparking time is defined as the time for which a spark is sustained.
Frequency of Spark Time - (Measured in Hertz) - Frequency of Spark Time is the frequency of oscillations in discharge circuit.
STEP 1: Convert Input(s) to Base Unit
Frequency of Spark Time: 0.03 Cycle per Second --> 0.03 Hertz (Check conversion here)
STEP 2: Evaluate Formula
Substituting Input Values in Formula
ts = 0.5/ft --> 0.5/0.03
Evaluating ... ...
ts = 16.6666666666667
STEP 3: Convert Result to Output's Unit
16.6666666666667 Second --> No Conversion Required
FINAL ANSWER
16.6666666666667 16.66667 Second <-- Sparking Time
(Calculation completed in 00.004 seconds)

How the spark is produced in Electric Discharge Machining ?

A typical circuit used for supplying the power to an EDM machine is named as the relaxation circuit. The circuit consists of a DC power source, which charges the capacitor ‘C’ across a resistance ‘Rc’. Initially when the capacitor is in the uncharged condition, when the power supply is on with a voltage of Vo, a heavy current, ic, will flow in the circuit as shown to charge the capacitor. The relaxation circuit as explained above was used in the early EDM machines. They are limited to the low material removal rates for fine finish, which limits its application. This can be explained from the fact that the time spent on charging the capacitor is quite large during which time, no machining can actually take place. Thus the material removal rates are low.
